I used the ending phrase of today's comic in a recent conversation about my job. With the emergence of various frameworks, web services, and other newer technologies, it seems like I do more environmental maintenance than actual coding these days. I don't know if I'm just getting old and shaking my fist at the young technologies on my virtual lawn or not, but I kind of miss the days when you could expect to just start writing code without first spending days making sure everything is set up correctly.
Anyone else have any thoughts on all of the ways that the newer technologies are "helping" you? Do you find most of the new technologies coming out today needlessly complex when some simple scripts and logic would suffice? Feel free to share your comments and either whine along me or make fun of this coding dinosaur.
