Recently, my son shoved a crayon up his nose. Why? I have no idea. People say it's just crazy things that kids do. I can't personally ever remember doing anything like that, but it does sound like something that I would have done as a kid. I guess my nose was just big enough to always pull them back out.
So, anyway, the crayon was pretty far up in ye olde nostril cavity so my wife took him to the doctor to get it out. The total bill for the extraction of 1 crayon was around $400. That's just insane. I would have been ok with the bill if it was like $50-100. But the whole thing took like 15 minutes, and the extraction wasn't even performed by the actual doctor himself. So removing a crayon is a $1600 an hour procedure? Really? Is it any wonder why some people have trouble paying their medical bills?
I just can't believe that this was a fair and reasonable charge. There was no medication or drugs, no complication surgery process, and not even a standard x-ray. Forget politicians trying to get health care for everyone. How about just getting the actual cost of health care itself down?
