Through
Best Buy, I got to attend an advance screening of
Hancock last night. My quick and dirty review of the movie was that it's definitely worth watching. I enjoyed Iron Man better, but there are some definite funny moments and a couple of decent action scenes in Hancock. The story won't blow you away, but it's serviceable enough.
The best thing about the night, however, was all of the security that I and my wife had to go through to see the movie. Our tickets stated multiple times in big bold red fonts that we were not allowed to bring any recording equipment into the theater. It makes sense that the security would be tighter for an advance screening. I just didn't expect tighter security than what I go through at the airport. I had to empty my pockets, my wife's purse was searched thoroughly and we were wanded to the point where I had to lift my shirt to prove that I had a belt buckle that was setting off the sensor. Each person in the theater had to go through this. Any and all cell phones were confiscated by the staff. I'm not really complaining about it. I just thought getting into the theater was interesting.
After the movie started, there were several staff walk-throughs around the crowd to ensure that they didn't miss anything. Then, in a totally unexpected-to-me moment, I saw one of the staff pull out an infrared camera and scan the crowd. To me, this may have been cooler than the actual movie itself. I wanted to go ask and see if I could play with the camera. I desperately wanted someone's cell phone to go off during the movie so I could see what kind of reaction the staff would have. They may have killed the person on the spot with a sniper rifle.
In conclusion, good movie, good time, crazy fun security moments, and I got $10 worth of Best Buy gift cards after the movie.
