I recently took my daughter to her first movie (
Horton Hears A Who) on her birthday. Since she's only 4, I wasn't sure how well she would handle sitting through the movie or how much much of it she would understand. I've read Horton to her a few times, but it's not one of the stories that we read so much that we know it by heart. She actually ended up doing really well throughout the entire movie, and I think she understood most of the storyline. Did she understand all of the jokes? No, but when the characters did funny things, she knew to laugh. Way to go, my offspring!
As for the movie itself, I thought it was well done. I'm a big Seuss fan so my opinion is a little biased, but it was cute, funny, and didn't try to add too much to the story that wasn't already there. I keep wanting to just throw away the whole bullied childhood portion of the Grinch movie. There wasn't anything blatant that I can remember in the movie that wasn't a basic idea in the book. And I think that the animation was a godsend after seeing the horror which was Cat in the Hat. I'd definitely give it a thumbs up. Now let's just sit back and wait for the Lorax and Butter Battle movies.
